The HiLumi Project Canadian contribution is now really kicking off with the reception of the first prototype RFD cavity, contributed by the US-AUP collaboration.
The RFD prototype cavity was installed in the TRIUMF vertical cryostat on 17 March. It was cooled to 4.2K on 20 March and to 2K on 21 March. The cryogenic tests are designed to validate earlier cold test results at JLab and to qualify TRIUMF’s cold test hardware in preparation for the arrival of the series cavities.
`The TRIUMF SRF team is super excited to get the first RFD cavity from our AUP colleagues,’ says Bob Laxdal, TRIUMF. ‘The first RFD cold test at TRIUMF represents a major milestone for the HiLumi RFD team. All the new test infrastructure works very well. Warm and cold measurement results matched all AUP test results then we were able to condition the cavity to a higher performance. The test confirms that TRIUMF is ready to receive the series cavities from AUP expected later this year.'
